Seattle

Seattle has earned its nickname of the "Emerald City" by drawing visitors to its plentiful parks and evergreen forest surroundings, not to mention the location on the waters of Puget Sound in Washington.

Summers here attract visitors from far and wide who come to see the famous Space Needle, Pike Place Market, Fremont Troll and interesting historical sites. Read more about visiting the Space Needle.

Celebrate summer at Seattle's Seafair throughout June, July and August. Stare in amazement at the Navy's Blue Angels acrobatic flying maneuvers, watch the hydroplanes race across Lake Washington and don't miss the much-loved Torchlight Parade.

If you are a fan of spectator sports, you can always find an event within the city. Catch the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field — rain or shine! Seattle's professional team, the Seattle Sounders soccer team, is now playing at CenturyLink Field — the official home turf for the Seattle Seahawks. Learn more about Seattle's sports venues.

If spending time outdoors suits you best, seize the day at any of hundreds of public parks, or the sandy Alki Beach in West Seattle. Head north to Discovery Park or Golden Gardens' beachfront playgrounds.

Distinct neighborhoods like Fremont and Wallingford make you feel at home with an overwhelming community atmosphere. Disappear between the tall buildings in downtown Seattle. Escape to Crystal Mountain or nearby Stevens Pass to ride the overwhelmingly fresh powder that falls each winter in the mountains.

Check out the “grunge” scene at the EMP Museum or any number of live music venues to learn about the birthplace of music icons such as Nirvana, Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam.
