Puyallup

More than 1 million people flock to the Washington State Fair in Puyallup (pronounced pew-al-up) every September. For 17 days, fairgoers enjoy more than 15,000 attractions, including an adorable Pig Palace, exotic animal display and mobile bar and craft brewery, while eating famous fair scones and earthquake burgers.

Other notable Puyallup events include the colorful Daffodil Festival in April and Meeker Days, celebrating Oregon Trail pioneer and town founder Ezra Meeker, in June. Meanwhile, the popular Puyallup Farmers’ Market bustles with patrons perusing super-fresh Washington produce, flowers and specialty foods at Pioneer Park every Saturday (April–October).

In its early years, Puyallup was an agricultural community, and the city continues to pay homage to its roots. Tour the Meeker Mansion, the ornate Italianate Victorian that Ezra Meeker built for his wife, or forage for treasures in the revered antiques district
