Lynden
Known for its wealth of farms, churches and windmills, Lynden is Dutch-influenced hamlet located 5 miles south of the U.S.-Canada border.
The city experienced an influx of Dutch immigration in the early and mid-1900s and continues to salute the heritage of its residents by preserving its European-style architecture. Make a visit to the Lynden Pioneer Museum your first stop for a quick overview of the area’s history. Then, stop at the colorful, windmill-topped Dutch Village and Windmill inns for a quick photo op.
Hungry? Charming Front Street is home to Lynden Dutch Bakery, which makes to-die-for raspberry and strawberry pies in the summertime, and Dutch Mothers Family Restaurant, known for hearty portions of European-inspired dishes. Meanwhile, Bellwood Acres is a terrific stop for farm-fresh produce (you can even pick your own apples).
Lynden’s calendar brims with fun festivals and events, including the Northwest Washington Fair in August, Raspberry Festival in July, and an Antique Tractor and Machinery Show in March.
