Bellingham has a little something for everyone: museums, music, and a charming historic neighborhood.

The SPARK Museum of Electrical Innovation shines with 23,000 square feet of exhibits about all things electrical, from Tesla coils to old TVs. Just a couple blocks away is the Bellingham Railway Museum packed with model trains.

Smack in between the two is The Wild Buffalo, offering slightly louder fun. The venue features acts like local electro-pop stars Beat Connection. After a night out dancing, Bellinghamers turn to open-till-late joints like Man Pies for savory mini pies stuffed with braised lamb and potatoes.

In the morning, head to Fairhaven, on the south side of the city. Originally a town of its own, the Fairhaven Historic District has retained its old buildings and its classic charm. Start with breakfast at the Harris Avenue Cafe, where a smoked-salmon omelette makes for a perfect morning. From there, head off to explore the boutiques. Good Earth Pottery is a sweet spot to find a locally made piece to take home, and Village Books has tomes to satisfy every interest.

Then, of course, there are the gorgeous views of Bellingham Bay from Boulevard Park (470 Bayview Dr) offers an expansive view of the water.
